Restriction, derestriction and limited bikes: what matters on a 35 kW motorbike or motorcycle.

A motorbike restriction brings a stronger machine down to 35 kW with an approved restrictor kit. That way you can ride a more powerful bike before the open test – and derestrict it again once the waiting period ends. Anyone who wants to derestrict the motorcycle later saves buying a second machine.

For the motorcycle restriction to be valid it has to be entered in the vehicle documents. On most current Honda models the restrictor kit works through the ECU: an ECU restrictor caps the power electronically, so nothing is welded or drilled. A throttle restrictor is the older mechanical solution and is still used on some machines. If you would rather not pay for the conversion at all, buy a limited bike straight away: we regularly have machines in stock that are already restricted to 35 kW. A restricted motorbike has the same quality and build as the open model, only the power is capped – as a new machine, an ex-demo or second hand.
