1Technology & data

Engine, output and licence category across the Honda SH range

Honda SH125 engine – 125 cc with 9.6 kW for category A1

Big wheels, upright seating, twist-and-go automatic

The Honda SH125 runs a 125 cc single with 9.6 kW. That keeps it inside licence category A1, which in Switzerland opens at 16. The drivetrain is a continuously variable automatic – no clutch, no gear changes.

What sets the SH apart from low-slung maxi models are the large wheels and the upright riding position. Tram rails, cobblestones and dropped kerbs lose their bite – one reason the SH has been among Europe's best selling models for decades.

Every figure on this page comes from our own stock. Details for an individual machine – colour, mileage, equipment – are shown in the detail view of each machine further down.

Honda SH125 in white – SH125 with 125 cc and 9.6 kW for licence category A1, in stock in Volketswil ZH

Honda SH150 and SH350 – more capacity for country roads and motorway

157 cc with 12.4 kW and 330 cc with 21.5 kW

Riders who regularly leave town take the larger engine. The SH150 makes 12.4 kW from 157 cc, the SH350 21.5 kW from 330 cc. Both sit above the A1 limit and are ridden on a category A restricted licence – known as A2 across the EU.

The chassis concept stays the same: large wheels, narrow bodywork, step-through frame. The SH350 takes longer stages in its stride without losing agility in traffic. Machines in the same power class are listed on our 35 kW motorbike page.

FAQ technology & data

Common questions about Honda SH technology

The SH125 has a 125 cc single producing 9.6 kW with a continuously variable automatic. That keeps it within category A1.

The SH Mode shares the capacity but produces 8.4 kW instead of 9.6 kW, in slimmer, more heavily faired bodywork. Both are ridden on category A1.

The SH350 produces 21.5 kW from 330 cc. It is the strongest SH in our stock and built for country roads and motorway.

No. Every SH model runs a continuously variable automatic – twist and go, no clutch and no gear changes.

Large wheels run more calmly over tram rails, potholes and kerbs and give more stability in corners. That is exactly what the SH was built for.

We do not quote a consumption figure here, because it is not listed in every advert and we do not pass on numbers we cannot document. Ask us about the specific machine and we will look it up.

5Where the SH fits

Where the Honda SH plays to its strengths

Ideal uses for the Honda SH

Commuting, city traffic and the ride to college

The SH is built for the daily journey. The upright seating gives a clear view of traffic, the step-through frame makes getting on and off easy even in ordinary clothes, and the large wheels take the sting out of tram rails and kerbs.

In the city of Zurich it plays to its full strength: parking is rarely a problem, and the journey takes the same time regardless of congestion or timetable. Riders further out – Uster, Dübendorf, Wallisellen, Winterthur – tend towards the SH150 or SH350, because country road speeds come into play.

For a start at 16 the SH125 is the right choice: it falls into category A1 and behaves predictably from the first day.

FAQ where the SH fits

Does the Honda SH suit your daily routine?

Yes. The automatic, the low step-through and the calm handling make the SH125 one of the easiest ways into riding.

From 16 with category A1. The route to that licence is described on our Swiss motorcycle licence page.

On journeys up to around 20 kilometres it is frequently quicker than car and public transport combined – and parking is barely an issue.

Yes, every SH has a passenger seat and footrests. On the SH125 the usual category A1 restrictions apply to new riders.

The SH350 does – with 21.5 kW it keeps up on country roads and motorway. For the SH125, short to medium journeys are the right territory.

Yes, with suitable tyres and accessories. A screen and hand guards make the difference. If you would rather lay the SH up, ask us about winter storage.

FAQ comparisons

SH or another Honda model?

The SH has large wheels and an upright riding position, the PCX is lower and more sportily styled. Output and category are practically identical – it comes down to seating and feel.

The Vision is lighter and narrower with 109 cc and 6.4 kW, the SH125 stronger at 9.6 kW and more assured in traffic. For short city journeys the Vision is enough.

Both have 330 cc. The Forza 350 has more bodywork and wind protection, the SH350 the more agile big-wheel machine.

The SH is automatic and carries luggage, the 125 cc motorbike is geared and sportier to ride. For the commute the SH almost always wins.

With a top box fitted, SH, PCX and Forza are close together. What usually matters is not the volume but whether your own helmet fits – bring it along and we will try it.

Yes. Let us know in advance and the models you want will be ready – including for a test ride.
